Who We Are?

About Us

Persatuan Luncur Udara Malaysia (PLUM) or Malaysia Paragliding and Hang Gliding Association was established in July 2001 and registered under the Sports Commissioner of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia on 26 February 2005 with registration number 1469/2005. PLUM is the only official body for this sport at the national level.

PLUM is also registered under the National Coaching Academy (AKK) as a sports body whose role is to develop coaching training programs for paragliding.

PLUM operates based on international standards as outlined by the world’s governing body, the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale (FAI), which acts as the governing body for all types of air sports for recreational purposes. PLUM has successfully proven that paragliding can be done in this country. This sport has proven to be well-mastered by anyone if they follow the correct learning methods and rules by certified instructors.

The Historical Journey Of PLUM

  1. 2000 – Paragliding & Hang gliding began in Malaysia.
    1998 – Hang Gliding from South Peak, Mount Kinabalu, Sabah – Foreigner.
    1999 – Paragliding from South Peak, Mount Kinabalu, Sabah – Foreigner.
    31 August 2000 – Tandem Trial by PLUM Members from South Peak, Mount Kinabalu, Sabah.
  2. 2000 – PLUM was established at the Small Airstrip, Segamat Johor.
  3. 2001 – 11 July 2001 – Registered under the Malaysian Society Registration.
  4. 2001-2004 – Actively involved in assisting the efforts of the Ministry of Youth and Sports Malaysia (KBS) to introduce and develop Paragliding (Paragliding & Hang gliding) throughout the country.
    – Identifying and testing the suitability of locations for paragliding activities throughout the country.
  5. 2003      –    Develop and advance Bukit Jugra, Banting Selangor as the earliest Paragliding Location in Malaysia.
  6. 2005      –    26 Feb 2005   – Registered under the Sports Commissioner, KBS as a national level sports body.

Captain Ikhwan

Paraglider Pilot

Captain (Rtd) Mohd Ikhwan bin Azillah
an ex-Malaysian Army officer. Commissioned to the Royal Malay Infantry Regiment. Undergo a transition course in the aviation sport in New Zealand after early retirement from the Armed Forces service.

Captain Ikhwan has extensive experience in organizing various aero sports events (since 2001 until now). Most of the events organized are attended by air sports enthusiasts from various countries.

  2. 2004-2011, traveled 11 times to New Zealand and Australia to complete the Coach accreditation requirements: – Coaching related courses.
    – Safety Over Water (SIV) 2008 & 2011.
    – Red Cross First Aid Course.
    – XC Competition.
    – Coaching Seminar.
  3. Attended SHO Course at NIOSH.
  4. Registered and cooperated with the National Coaching Academy, National Sports Council (AKK-MSN) as a Coach to Specific Sports Bodies.
  5. Consultant/Advisor to Terengganu State Scouts.
  6. Experienced in participating in international paragliding championships in Taiwan, New Zealand and Australia.
  7. Gained experience in European countries (Switzerland, France, United Kingdom) to deepen his knowledge of the sport of paragliding.
  8. The first individual to do Tandem Paragliding commercially in Malaysia.
  9. The first individual in Malaysia to be accredited as an International Trainer.
  10. The first individual in Malaysia to be a ‘test pilot’ for a prototype safety umbrella.
  11. The only former soldier sponsored by the Armed Forces Affairs Corporation (PERHEBAT) to take a Transition Course Abroad in the field of paragliding.
  12. Among the pioneers and earliest individuals to do paragliding activities in Malaysia.
  13. The first individual to spark the idea of ​​the Container Home, by creating the Malaysia Paragliding Flight Park, at the foot of Bukit Jugra (2013-2016).
  14. The first individual responsible for sparking the idea of ​​the Aero School Holiday Program or ‘Aero Summer Camp’ with the concept of aviation and other paragliding skills courses.
